with the exception of a very disappointing third piece coming for jurassic park, movies always do reasonably well with the attaching third segment to their storylines. it happened with scream, alien, and of course the never-ending star wars legacy.
me, being an ultimate fan of the original and powerful jurassic park with an underlying-morale for humanity… i was very appalled to see a second part of my favourite film titled the lost world, with only the boring monotone jeff goldblume and godzilla-esque t-rex rampage of los angeles.
and now with the impending arrival of jurassic park iii, i feel that urge to lower my head once again. even with the masterful acting of new zealand’s sam neill, who plays professor grant in the original film and again in the third, jurassic park iii seems to be destined for doom. without the artistic yet implying force of mr. spielberg that was apparent in the first, present director joe johnston is sitting on a disappointing land mine. tea leoni isn’t doing much to help the end of the jurassic trilogy along, either. her horrible and gaspy attempt at acting makes me cringe as it did with her role in deep impact where she attempted to create pathos as the product of divorced parents at the time of armageddon.
i will still purchase my ticket for the theatrical release of jurassic park iii, but — believe you me — my expectations will be low. i will, however, be quite surprised if sam neill manages to pull the film out of the gutter with some of his original character’s persona or if leoni is somehow dragged into a gigantic nest by a pterodactyl and served as worm meat to its hungry offspring.
