sometimes people can word things so eloquently and honestly that it makes me stop and think. i don’t often stop just to think, so if a quote can make me do that it’s gotta be worth something.
- “i guess i could be pretty pissed off about what happened to me, but it’s hard to stay mad when there’s so much beauty in the world. sometimes i feel like i’m seeing it all at once and it’s too much my heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst and then i remember to relax and stop trying to hold onto it and then it flows through me like rain and i can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life. you have no idea what i’m talking about, i’m sure. but don’t worry you will… someday.” neo would like this one. hint: i mentioned the film in my last post.
- “so excuse me forgetting but these things i do / you see i’ve forgotten if they’re green or they’re blue / anyway the thing is what i really mean / yours are the sweetest eyes i’ve ever seen / i hope you don’t mind that i put down in words / how wonderful life is now you’re in the world.” even some song lyrics can make my heart flutter just a tiny bit. hint: he’s got them big ol’ glasses and this ‘song’ was revived in the cinematic wonder moulin rouge.
- “backbeat the word was on the street / that the fire in your heart is out / i’m sure you’ve heard it all before / but you never really had a doubt / i don’t believe that anybody feels / the way i do about you now.” more lyrical work. hint: remember those crazy brothers gallagher? no? hmm… i hardly remember them, either.
- “ok… so, like, right now for example, the haitians need to come to america. but some people were, like, well… what about the strain on our resources? but it was like when i had this garden party for my father’s birthday, i said RSVP on the invitation because it was a sit-down dinner. but people came that, like, did not RSVP. so i was totally buggin’. i had to haul ass to the kitchen, re-distribute the food, squish in extra place settings. but, by the end of the day, it was, like, the more the merrier! so if the government could just get to the kitchen, rearrange some things, we could certainly party with the haitians! and in conclusion, may i please remind you that it does not say RSVP on the statue of liberty.” another one of my favourite films, a modern day emma — not to belittle jane austen. hint: the ever-sassy alicia silverstone.
i have this thing for film and song quotes. to have felt that specific emotion with yourself or someone or some people is a grand thing, indeed. i find that people can tell the best stories and anecdotal views on politics with the simplest of words. quotes do carry meaning, although it does seem to be “biting” another’s thoughts. well, that’s what you get for being so damn eloquent — people like myself are stupidly inspired.
