i think it’s funny how some people can stand there and ramble on about what their government should have done to prevent something like this from happening. i watched CNN and listened to a man talk about how politicians and defence ministers have done nothing to protect the american public from such a tragedy. this is all funny to me because these are the same people who want to cut taxes and are apathetic to various, seemingly pointless elections around their communities that could possibly affect their own protection against such acts of violence. all the while they sip their starbuck’s lattés and give themselves a pat on the back after having managed to evade a potential terrorist attack one more day by doing absolutely nothing as individuals. such congratulatory effort.
i guess JFK’s inaugural quip, “ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country” was not resonating long enough in the american ear. and even look at what happened to JFK; he was assassinated. this goes to show that no amount of political ideal can save a nation from a surprise, terrorist attack. the government can only do so much to prevent disasters like these, as you can only do so much to keep from catching the flu. you just can’t. shit happens and it happened yesterday morning. soon citizens are going to want their government to control the weather. “i’m perishing in this heat! damn the government for not learning how to control the sun!” the weather is about as incontrollable as the psyche and drive of a mad-man.
what happened on the morning of september 11, 2001 was a terrible loss and i pray that it never happens again during anyone else’s lifetime. but if one looks at history, isn’t it all about hate and spite and revenge? isn’t it simply an endless cycle of battle and war and attack? one may wonder how this same spiral can be avoided. it’s not about government and where your tax dollars are going. it’s about something more abstract within the human heart. it should be the human condition not to hate and not to wage war, and instead to take these disasters as lessons… to never treat someone in the same reprehensible manner.
so what do i think when i witness these slack-jawed yokels giving their country shit for something that no air-marshal or secretary of defence or president of the united states could possibly have thwarted? i think they need a reality check and should cognize the fact that it is people like them who put so much unnecessary reliance and blame on a government that can never be fully perfect. instead of looking to the government for solutions to all of life’s problems, these ignorant folks should look to themselves and realize that the misguided anger they place on their home country is the same anger that mad-men use to fuel their aggression on any given day.
