i’ve been obsessed with the sopranos for the last week or so. ever since i returned home from my sister’s place in victoria with the season one and two dvd sets in my possession, i’ve been glued to the television like a junkie.

what’s strange is that the sopranos isn’t really a show i would normally watch. i mostly like my shows cheesy, romantic, and exceedingly sensitive. the sopranos takes everything i have come to love about television shows and flips it upside down. is it weird that i enjoy the gratuitous violence? the frequent swearing? the royally messed up families?

i find the character of tony soprano so intriguing (i would say “attractive” here, but once i misused the word in the same sentence in front of alan and he’s never been the same). he is the protagonist of the show, yet he is also a violent, murderous (when need be) criminal. it calls my whole idea of what is “good” and “evil” into question as i find myself feeling sympathy for his character under what can only be excused as a severe case of moral relativism.

tony is just too cool for school.
