i recently stumbled onto google blogoscoped through my referral logs (heh, “logs”…), and read this about my site and sites similar to mine:
I’m saddened that many of the hands-down best design blogs use tiny, low-contrast fonts to get their point across. While the layout is impressive this completely destroys readability for me. I wish I could stop saying things like “small fonts are the biggest design problem on the web” but it’s still true: they are.i guess i never really had a problem with small fonts; a long time ago, i thought them kind of cute, and now they’ve sort of stuck with me. but, then again, i have never tried using a screen resolution higher than 1024 x 768. i fear change. and capitalized words.

i also find it strange to hear that my layout is “impressive” (or, at least, featured in the same train of thought as the word “impressive”). it’s just a box with a bunch of other boxes inside of it. it would appear an insult to the design community to refer to my site as a “design blog”.
anyway, this gives me a good segue into what i’ve been wanting to post about for a long-ass time, and that is about an upcoming layout change. i’ve had this new layout in the making for months, and i’ve never gotten around to making it web-worthy, mostly because i am a lazy arse who probably has the time to do it but would rather be watching old episodes of roswell and eating japanese crackers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. it definitely isn’t impressive and the font size is bigger (here i am, embracing change). i guess i’m trying to care more about “readability” or whatever, but i’m finding it hard to move from my egocentric behaviour and into the realm of giving-a-rat’s-ass-about-other-people. it’s been a difficult transition.
